Hello, this is KA.
Recently, the news has been reporting on the armed conflict between Israel, Palestine and the surrounding countries. But did you know that this is not a recent issue, but a problem that has been going on for a long time and continues to this day?
This time, I would like to introduce a book that I would recommend you pick up and read first to learn about the Middle East issue .
The book in question is " What is Gaza? A Crash Course to Understand Palestine " (Daiwa Shobo), which was published on December 31st, 2023, and was in its fourth edition as of March this year.
This book is a compilation of two lectures on Palestine given by the author, Professor Oka Mari of Waseda University. Its main contents include the following three points:
1. When and how was the country of Israel founded, and what kind of country is it?
②Why did Palestinians have to become refugees ?
3) What is Gaza , and why is it blockaded and Israel attacking it?
I recently learned that these problems are occurring in the Middle East, and decided to pick up this book. However, after reading this book, I realized how ignorant and indifferent I am to society . I learned that the Palestinian problem is more serious and tragic than we think, and is not something that can be ignored. I realized how fragmented the reports from major news stations in Japan and other countries are, and how they do not convey the seriousness of the problem, and how they are trying to avoid telling us the truth.
If you pick up this book, I think you will have the same impression as me. So please borrow it from your local library, or buy it from a bookstore and read it. I'm sure it will raise many questions and doubts for you. And I think some of those who do will pick up other books and have even more doubts. I'm one of them.
Let's start by finding out what is happening in the world right now with this one book . I'm sure you will notice something new.
If you have learned about the Palestinian issue through reading this blog, or if you have always been interested in it, I would love to hear your opinions and thoughts in the comments section of this blog.
I'm sure my writing will be poorly done by people from overseas, but I would be happy to exchange opinions with you.
